For me, don’t use the ACLU in an argument for or against anything. I will surely take the opposite position. If ever an organization was misnamed, it’s this one.
The proposed wording of this Act is disturbing from many perspectives. Rather than clarifying existing laws, the new language gives government far greater control over what is considered acceptable. Everytime government gets more power, they find ways to abuse it. There needs to be more awareness of the actual language of the Act versus what the politicians are selling. For instance, victims of child pornography schemes, with no other relevant experience, are qualified to be on the oversight committee. That is just one example of the lunacy that has been included to get this passed. Read it for yourself. Yes it's boring, but you need to read it so you can talk about specifics when you contact your legislators. Please take the time to do this so we don't get another stupid bill crammed down our throats!
This is of the greatest importance. The majority of americans that use instant messaging services are completely unaware that end to end encryption will be affected by this bill. more needs to be done by all to bring this detail in to the public awareness now. not later....
